"My Dad is Rich"

By Tavia Rzasa

The song “My Dad is Rich” by Draco and the Malfoys adds just another title to their list of many songs. In 2004, Brian Ross and Bradley Mehlenbacher of Woonsocket, R.I., formed their musical project Draco and the Malfoys. Five years later and the band has released two CDs and one EP including Draco and the Malfoys (2005), Party Like You’re Evil (2007), and their EP Family (2007).

Half-brothers Ross and Mehlenbacher write songs based on events that occur in J.K. Rowling’s hit series Harry Potter through Malfoy’s point of view. To share these songs about the Harry Potter series, Draco and the Malfoys perform around the U.S. and Canada at libraries, educational institutions, book stores and clubs.

At first listen, most may think that “My Dad is Rich” is a song meant for children, as Ross and Mehlenbacher’s voices seem very childish. After listening to the lyrics, however, it seems this is not a childish song at all, as it can be offensive to some people. According to Wikipedia, Ross has even admitted to little kids getting upset and yelling at them for their lyrics. The song is labeled under the category of Wizard Rock/Indie Rock, but it has a very humorous feel to it.

  1. "The song “My Dad is Rich” by Draco and the Malfoys adds just another title to their list of many songs." Does this line any information at all to the story?
I don't see an answer to "The big question" here. I know what you are reviewing, and a bit about your assessment but ...
Double check your AP style on "composition titles."
